LCD, Keyboard and PIC16F84 or PIC16F877

Hallo all,

I need to make my first project using a PIC microcontroller. The PIC microcontroller needs to control a small keyboard matrix (3*4) and a 2*20 LCD. (controlled by Hitachi HD44780)
I have a choice between a PIC16F877 or PIC16F84. Since it's my first project I think I will go for the PIC16F84.

I've never worked with PIC microcontrollers or the Hi-Tech PICC compiler before so I was wondering if someone could help me out?

I think there already exists code for scanning a keyboard matrix and updating information on a LCD but I didn't find it. (I looked on www.workingtex.com/htpic but I didn't find any routines I could use immediately.)

Can someone help me with an example of a source file used to control LCDs and a source file used to scan a keyboard matrix?

Thanks in advance for all the help!

Best Regards,
Maurice.
